    Glyn Valley Tramway

Does anyone please know what is the current state of play regarding the Glyn Valley Tramway? The websites of the two factions (GVT Group - restoration to original 2'4½" gauge and GVT Trust - rebuild to 2'6" gauge) appear to have gone ominously quiet for longer than seems healthy.

    Stations next to the beach

Seaford (Sussex). There's a (possibly apocryphal) tale that the station was/is close enough for an earthing cable to be slung into the sea as soon as it was realised that the signal frame was 'live' when the line was sparked up back in 1933.

    Cranleigh railway reopening?

I confess to being a bit out of date regarding Peamarsh Jnc, having had visions of trying to get NR/SWT to agree to a 'Smallbrook Jnc MkII' on the Portsmouth line. Glad to hear it's closer to a 'Martins Heron' type situation. Of course, if a station gets built close by the junction itself...

    Cranleigh railway reopening?

Glad to oblige: http://www.waverley.gov.uk/info/200140/housing_development-new_homes/1464/new_homes_in_cranleigh One thing which did strike me was the possibility of a beneficial symbiotic relationship with the W&ACT mob at Loxwood. In the longer term, roads in the area, already groaning...

    Heritage Railway Speed Limits

Fair enough, though for purely heritage lines & services, there'd be a big safety issue with wooden bodied stock. It took the best part of a decade following Harrow & Wealdstone for BR to dispose of obsolete stock from the mainline, and I can't see the 'powers that be' wanting that rolled back...

    Heritage Railway Speed Limits

I'd agree with this for heritage services (even though I timed a late running service on one preserved line - which had probably still better remain anonymous! - at 37mph many moons ago), although, perhaps some at the GCR might see things differently! Just to clarify my earlier post, I'm...

    Heritage Railway Speed Limits

I'm not well up on events on the SVR, but I've previously asked the same question elsewhere following the announcement of the Worget Jnc. re-signalling. It struck me that the putative commuter service being actively discussed utilising the Swanage Railway might well be better served if...

    Rail Buckling

Knew I'd seen it somewhere!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladder_track Wonder what HS/2 will use, if and when....

    Rail Buckling

Don't ya just wish the same applied to the laws of economics !! :| Thinking about desert conditions where the temerature range is even more marked than the UK led me to a search for this issue in Australia. Oddly enough, discussions on 'this 'ere forum what I located' seem to confirm Bald...

    Rail Buckling

Some interesting observations... a rail sprinkler... wow!! I was wondering how much of the modern buckling problems were down to long lengths of heavy section cwr compared with the far shorter sections of jointed track under the care of (many more) pw gangs than are used/needed today...

    Rail Buckling

Possibly a daft question, but with rail buckling due to a week of summer weather back in the news, can anyone please enlighten me as to whether UK PW is any more susceptible to buckling than elsewhere? Also, is bull-head track any more or less prone to this problem than the F-B section now used?

NG locos - where are they now?

Cheers MM :D Oddly, it's the tender & cab which look most familiar ! It's bigger than I recalled, but that sure looks like the beastie !! Problem solved - thanks all!

NG locos - where are they now?

Thanks :) The J.Snell reference in the link might explain it's presence at New Romney. Wish to hell I took a photograph at the time. ho-hum!

NG locos - where are they now?

Positive Rob. The loco I'm enquiring about was decidedly Teutonic in appearance and narrow gauge with a 4w tender. Definitely not 'Dunrobin' and not 'The Bug'. From memory, it was outside cylindered and had no leading or trailing axles. I seem to remember it was 0-4-0, but wouldn't swear to it...

NG locos - where are they now?

Thanks Marvin, sounds eminently logical. One down - one to go ! Anyone know if Graf Schwerin-Löwitz (the loco, that is) spent any time at New Romney after import? I've a nagging feeling the Romney loco was a different one, smaller and the cab looked far more 'Henschel' plus I don't recall a...
