SouthWest Airlines 1380 - Piloting Response

Hard agree. Single seat fast jet experience isn't very relevant to flying large multi crew transports. Its not necessarily bad but it isn't necessarily good either.

    How do charter flights work?

It isn't. Its an emergency only airport not an alternate. Very different things. BA flew one in to check it out and subsequently decided not to use it. As I recall they used the runway and then towed it down the BAMC maintenance taxiway, it didn't go near the terminal. The runway is easily...

Major rail disruption across Southern England due to radio fault (07/05)

That's an entirely railway induced problem though. Obviously the Windsor side has compounding issues but as far as I can see the opposite sides of Liverpool Street don't grind to a halt when the West Anglia or GE sections have issues and vice versa. Why is Victoria operating now with limited...

Flight crew protocols when a pilot leaves the flight deck

Who is more likely to present a risk? The pilot with massive barriers to entry, several years training and frequent physical and mental health checks or the Cabin Crew member employed 8 weeks ago? If its the former then presumably all public transport should be multi crewed? And that's before...

Car parking for west of London stations

The Old Deer Park car park in Richmond is free overnight 1830-0800. Literally a straight line off the M3. About 3 min walk to the station. District line to Earls Court. You can pay on RingGo in the morning if you are staying past 8 without having to be there to get a ticket. Work checking Just...

    SWR App?

I've seen the platform screens change whilst on a Desiro whilst still in the Platform at a station where many people got off. So I'd say its close to live.

    Public Transport in Tbilisi

You don't actually need a smart card. UK based Apple pay, contactless etc. work fine on buses, minibuses and metro. You do need a card for the day tickets, but not for casual use.

    Train Driving to Airline Flying?

Me either in my 25 years short haul, long haul, short haul. May have been more common in the older generation who were retiring when i started but not been a part of my (Big) airline career.

Possibility of a full-size electric heritage railway

I suspect its bigger than you think. Just not the traditional all day steam tour. A circular route out of a London termini for 3 hrs, leaving at 7ish in the evening and a longer Sunday lunch itinerary with fine dining will be quite attractive. I'm guessing the operating costs will be way lower...

    British Airways

Hardly anybody travels from Trafalgar Square to Edinburgh Castle any more than they travel from Heathrow Airport to Edinburgh Airport. They travel from somewhere to somewhere and comparing city centre to city centre times is no more valuable than airport to airport. Not everybody has homes and...
