    Sweden to Norway (Lulea-Boden-Kiruna-Narvik) queries

Luckily I have an interail so pretty flexible to get to the sleeper at Lulea. Looking at other options makes me realise how bad Norrtag is. All the Haparanda trains cancelled day after day, half the Umea and Kiruna to Lulea trains too. Really bad.

    Sweden to Norway (Lulea-Boden-Kiruna-Narvik) queries

I was planning to do Narvik-Lulea on Friday but the line has been closed for another derailment. Does anyone have any insights on timescale before I re plan

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

It’s a bit unimpressive that they fail day after day to get the sets off shed even on the diagrams that have been mark 4s for years.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Neither of the Holyhead diagrams today seem to be Mk4 operated. Anyone know if this is likely to continue?

    BA domestic at Heathrow T5

An hour is fine, but, I probably wouldn’t risk it quite that tight by tube. The Piccadilly line to T5 can have random gaps and it could be stressful.

    A380s coming back

It doesn’t matter how much space you have if the cargo is perishable and the holds you’re trying to put it in aren’t climate controlled. Volume does not equal value. Stuttgart is carrying car parts. Frankfurt wasn’t.

    Aviation Discussion

It’s not. Fuel reclearance is vanishingly rare on airliners. It’s only ever necessary where you’re approaching the payload/range limitations of the aircraft and that simply doesn’t happen very much with modern airliners. The 757 on Westbound Atlantic crossings in winter is probably the only time...

    Aviation Discussion

That’s not a fuel re-clearance operation though so doesn’t have much to do with whether marginal range flights are in any way common. Modern flight planning and FMC accuracy means you hardly ever gain fuel on the plan en-route anyway.

    Hull Trains 802: Construction updates

I’ve just passed what looked like a Hull Trains 802 near Neunkirchen on a secondary route in the Saarland (far west Germany). Sorry for crap photo.

Braking issue on Caledonian Sleeper causes train to "run away" at Edinburgh

Isn't the problem that the operator has come up with a conclusion on social media in even less than 12 hours in an attempt to pretend it doesn't matter?

Ideas for potential Heathrow Southern link services, including Gatwick link.

The idea that there is some untapped market who will happily transfer between airports in London rather than flying via Amsterdam/Frankfurt/Dubai etc is fantasy. Connecting flights are always cheaper than direct. The financial incentive to pay for the inconvenience doesn’t exist even before you...
