I was taking the train up to Churchill, we got to Thompson pretty much on time, sat there for over 12 hours, and were then taken to a Rail Replacement Airplane! Arrived earlier than the train would have done, but annoying to me as cost way more than just taking the plane up there would have done...

How will a flyover at Woking allow two more slots at Waterloo? The throat/platforming at Waterloo won't change, nor will capacity through Wimbeldon etc The article fails to mention that at all. Which is exactly what the original SWML RUS said when it said it wasn't an option for more capacity...

Neither, or trolley for longer journeys if the train isnt full. The extra seating space is usually beneficial, certainly more so than the very rare occasions I have used a buffet (single figures in my entire life).

Completed this and would encourage others to do the same. Very valuable use of time and I hope the research goes well.

I've been to the States many times, drunk in about half of the states in the States, and never once been asked for ID. I've been ID'd once in the last 20 or so years. It was for a lottery ticket.

I have a similar ticket, AAA either Beckenham (Jn or New) to London. It works the barriers at Victoria, but none of the London Bridge/Waterloo/Charing Cross terminals. I would have thought New Beckenham to Charing Cross was frequent enough to be coded, but apparently not.

That would be an average speed of 137mph which seems somewhat implausible.

Southeastern TVMs allow you to collect with any card, not just when the last four digits match.

A couple of confusing bits there, if you were sitting down in first class, how did the RPIs advise you to sit down? Were you trying to leave first class when you spotted the RPIs coming? Then, if you believed first class was declassified, why would you try and purchase a first class ticket...

I am looking into moving half way between Brockenhurst and Salisbury. Am I right in thinking that as a result of these changes, there is now no annual season ticket that I can get that would allow me to go from London and choose either destination without paying an excess?

I always pick up from Southeastern with the wrong card, never had a problem. I did it last week after booking with a work credit card (from a different TOC's website) and picking up from Southeastern with my own.

By this logic, all anyone ever has to do is turn up "late" for their train, and only by a ticket if physically forced to do so at the other end. If they are stopped, they just say "I was going to buy a ticket" and pay the minimum, if not stopped they walk away without paying. I'm fairly sure...

Thanks Gordon, another question, I have the seat plan up to reserve tickets, it doesn't say which direction of travel, is there a way to tell which seats are facing forwards? Is first class always at one end for example?
