Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

People are also missing the fact that if they had built a car park it would have been full of doctors, biologists etc who work on the biomedical campus so there would have been no room to park anyway

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

Please not! It's the best way to enjoy those trains

Great Northern Fleet - 379s introduction

379s continue to make commuting a massive pain. Currently sat at Cambridge on one that I expect to be cancelled in 5 minutes making me 30 minutes late again. What actually is the situation with making them fit for purpose? Because they obviously aren't now, and from the announcements they give...

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

I would have thought that China is probably the best example of place with high speed railways and a larger temperature range than here. Looking at Beijing for example at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Beijing_weatherbox they have record highs of 41.9° and lows of -27.4° so pretty chunky...

    Abbey Wood escalators permanently decommissioned?

IIRC the length of interchanges and general entrance/exits is a deliberate choice. I think the idea is that it spreads people out much more and prevents overcrowding. Obviously as a user definitely not something I appreciate.

Cambridge Stations ticketing and the forthcoming Cambridge South

Especially when the download pdf option on the Cambridge North webpage gives the Cambridge map!

    Cambridge South new station opening

I highly highly doubt it. Very few stations do. FWIW I've taken a hockey stick to and from London on the same commute (and to the same Hockey club!) a fair few times and never had any issues.

    Cambridge South new station opening

Really!? Seems like madness given that's what it's there to serve. Glad the final result is much better.

    Minimum fare with split tickets

Thanks all, hadn't found that. Unhelpful that the wording is different in the 2 places.

    Minimum fare with split tickets

https://www.26-30railcard.co.uk/using-your-railcard/travel-times-tickets Am I correct in my understanding that if I'm making a journey using split tickets with a 26-30 railcard for which the total fare is more than £12 that it's acceptable for individual tickets to cost less than £12 given it's...

    Cambridge South new station opening

AIUI Cantabs are going to have to move anyway because their taking the end of their pitch (not sure if permanently or just during construction). Given that, does seem like it would be possible, but also possibly OTT during summer. I'd have thought just a scaffolding bridge there for walking...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

I certainly know a fair few people who are eligible for and in some cases already have have a Railcard who can't be bothered with the faff of getting an Oyster and adding the Railcard to it. Even when I chat through the costs with them they decide it isn't worth it to them.

Trivia: Bus routes or corridors that currently get a full 24/7 bus service.

Some of the ones you've included such as the 1 in Oxford, or the N5 in Brighton aren't really 24/7 stopping about 2 and not restarting till 0430 or so.

Trivia - Bus routes which change countries

Loads in the Basel area if you look at the map: https://www.bvb.ch/wp-content/bvb/Dokumente/Liniennetzplan/2019/TNW_Liniennetz2019.pdf I presume same for places like Geneva, Monaco, etc

Great Northern Fleet - 379s introduction

Does anyone know what's up with the doors on the 379s? It feels like most trains I've been on recently have had at least some delay due to doors, with some fully cancelled! Just generally feels like we've got a massive downgrade 387->379.
