    SWR Diesel Fleet Refurbishment

I did point this out to the individual. It turns out he wasn't actually travelling on the train, he just 'stuck his head inside the door'. SWR are doing the best they can with limmited resources and having to deal with the SMD situation on the West of England line.

    SWR Diesel Fleet Refurbishment

This appeared on the South Western Railway Passenger Facebook group this morning: "Anyone who was looking forward to the refurbishment of the diesel Class 159 trains, prepare to be severely disappointed! I saw the first refreshed unit 159103 at Salisbury this morning about to head off to...

Trivia: Journeys between two locations that can be done in opposing 'directions'?

In the past from Plymouth you could go south from the station to London via Tavistock and Okehampton or north via Totnes and Newton Abbot. Both lines then crossed at Exeter St Davids with the Southern going off via Exeter Central and Salisbury while the Western headed via Taunton to London...

Seriously, how can anyone use the railway for long distance commuting?

Best trains ever. On GWR they have been replaced with the Hitachi Class 800s. Uncomfortable, noisy and with seats like ironing boards even in First

Seriously, how can anyone use the railway for long distance commuting?

For eleven years I used to do a weekly commute from Preston to Euston on Virgin trains. Down on Wednesday morning and back Thursday evening. I can only remember a couple of cancellations, both weather related. The only major delays I experienced were on six occasions coming back from Euston, all...

How should the Crewkerne issue be resolved both short and long term?

Normal timetable from tomorrow according to SWR. According to their press release they are offering 20,000 additional Advance tickets starting from as little as £13 and a wide range of off-peak tickets for journeys between Salisbury and Exeter will also be discounted by one third. The offers...

Delay repay SWR offering invalid alternative journey.

Yes, Basingstoke. Thank you, I've corrected that. I bought the ticket from SWR and sent them an image but I'll take your advice on the screenshot if they turn it down again. When I came back the other way yesterday the ticket barrier at Woking would not accept my return ticket. The guy on the...

Delay repay SWR offering invalid alternative journey.

I travelled on the 1458 Yeovil Junction to Heathrow T3 on 16th August using a First Class Open return. The train was supposed to go to Waterloo but was terminated short at Basingstoke. I had a 20 minute wait at Basingstoke for a connection to Woking so I missed my RailAir coach which would have...

Crewkerne station to close from 28th July (Re-opening 11th August)

That contradicts the e mail that was sent out at 1232 to SWR account holders. That just said there would be a train every two hours between Waterloo and Exeter. Didn't mention that the service between Waterloo and Yeovil J would remain hourly.

Crewkerne station to close from 28th July (Re-opening 11th August)

Less so now, certainly in my bit of the world. Everyone seems to drive to Dorset, the A31/A35 is heaving at weekends. Getting to the coast from the railways is much more difficult now the branch lines have gone and bus services are infrequent.

Crewkerne station to close from 28th July (Re-opening 11th August)

We'll see the details when they release the new timetable on Mon 4th. I'm booked on the 1529 from Yeovil J to Woking on 16th Aug. Hopefully they will lift the restrictions on Advanced tickets tied to a specific train

Crewkerne station to close from 28th July (Re-opening 11th August)

Just had an e mail from SWR stating the service between Waterloo and Exeter St Davids is going to be reduced to two hourly but stops at Crewkerne are being restored from 11th Aug. Journeys between Waterloo and Yeovil Jnc will take an extra 25 mins and between Waterloo and Exeter St D an extra...

How should the Crewkerne issue be resolved both short and long term?

There might well be scope for extra services from Cranbrook into Exeter. The population is now over 7,000 and they are building like mad at the moment.
