Northern Trainee Drivers - Newcastle & Darlington (25/03/21)

Actually, I was slightly incorrect on that information. Invites have gone out for interviews in June. So that's a little more positive for people still waiting.

Sorry to hear that. I have long since abandoned trying to understand how HR make their decisions. Hope you have better luck in the future.

From what I have heard, the internal candidates have not heard anything yet. Externals are usually after this.

Train presentation operative Northern working hours days

I can tell you that the same job, but located at Darlington is 7 days on, 7 days off and the nightshift is 20.00 - 06.00. Other locations might be similar, perhaps.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

My apologies, probably being too North centric in my perspective. I can appreciate the trainee salary may well be higher in South with some TOC's.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

Yes, I forgot about TPE being an exception to the rule.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

I can only really speak on behalf of the role of Driver, but it is impossible to be paid a salary of around 40k while training in the early stages. My own TOC pays around 40k after the first year (then increases over several years). So I suppose you may have to have build up some savings to live...

The 12 month mark is a guarantee. You will get the increase regardless of how far the training has gone.

Northerns remaining Pacers at heaton T&R.S.M.D Depot. Still on lease

There is no plans for those pacers at Heaton to be re-introduced back into normal service, but there has been some mutterings of a farewell tour of some kind. Which I would love to see or take part in!

    Train Driver online prep courses

Most of my particular group are mid to late 30's. Also the vast majority have been internal ( generally ex-conductors). Nobody would blink an eye at your age, as you are considered still quite young for this particular career. Speaking as someone, that has been working in railway for around 20...

    Train Driver online prep courses

My first driving role was as an MDD ( depot driver) in 2017. I was the first female to ever to work in this role at my location, so that was certainly an experience in itself! I started my mainline training at the start of the year at the age of 40. My training group has a range of ages and I...

    Train Driver online prep courses

Hi there, I did the course you are talking about and I can confirm that it was a waste of time. I am now a trainee driver and the course taught me nothing additional from what is already available on here. Hope that seals the deal and you won't bother with it ( Also saving yourself a hundred...

I really wish you the best of luck with it. I imagine with the tests already in the bag, it will probably help a great deal. Hopefully you won't have too long to wait!
