I noticed that 1A61 the 0832 Sunderland to Kings Cross is formed of both 180112 and 180114 this morning, does anyone know why these occasional 10 car class 180 workings operate, from previous workings it doesn't appear to be stock movement as both units usually work back north still coupled?
One of the big problems in disruption at Stations like Sheffield or Peterborough is the number of passengers incoming from trains and expecting to change to another service, so even if you shut access off from the street to control numbers it becomes impossible to do so.
They may have "crunched the numbers" but what they certainly didn't do was consult their existing passengers who travel from Billingham/Seaton Carew/Horden/Seaham when they decided to truncate the all stations service to either Newcastle or Middlesborough most of the day. This has added at least...
Unfortunately, often what many people think are Real Time Information screens are anything but, all they are is an electronic version of the scheduled timetable, which quite frankly is a waste of money.
Quite, the 1115 off Exeter St Davids to Paddington on Monday 27 /7/26 was showing as 14 cars, of course in reality the 9 car set that turned up failed for? after we'd all boarded, and was detrained until a terminating 5 car was finally commandeered to work forward absolutely rammed.
Glad we didn't try to reach Hereford and went to London instead, although that wasn't straightforward either, we came back on the 1710 from Euston which was late leaving due to late inbound, had a coach D which was inferno temperature (risk to life warning) and a variety of mixed messages about...
Still some delays, largely from displaced crew issues, 0807 Avanti New Street to Edinburgh left about 30 late, the 0847 Avanti Birmingham to Euston which I'm on left 20 late, the former was already late and further delayed awaiting a guard, the latter awaiting a driver.
No, too many changes and too early a start if wanting to get there in time for midday opening (to get a seat inside), same on return, plus likely standing on trains as they will be extra busy.
It's probably worth remembering that the use of thin and inadequate seat squabs on standard class long distance IC stock started years ago, the mark 2 stock weren't over padded, but the mark 4 stock when first delivered was even worse...
I was booked on the 0815 from Doncaster to Kings Cross this morning, as a result of the cable theft the previous 2 services had been cancelled and the 0815 was announced as full and standing, not being willing to stand all the way I aborted the journey, good thing I did as the 225 set also had...
