The Department of Transport Should be Re-located to Whitby.

The whole subject of this thread (in case it escaped your notice) is, I suspect, very tongue-in-cheek. Let's just say - were they to relocate as described, it might just bring such study and/or real work marginally closer. It could probably be studied and done several times over for the...

The Department of Transport Should be Re-located to Whitby.

I'd suggest it's a rather different situation with most suburban/residential places for a Leeds commute having a 30-minute or better service vs. Whitby with it's sparse service along a ridiculously over-rationalised bit of track, and no remaining direct route south.

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

The nearer a specialised bay (disabled, EV, etc) bay is to the store entrance, the greater the likelihood that some idle selfish individual will leave their car there with no eligibility or need save for their unwillingness to walk more steps than they have to. For this reason (noting I'm not...

Have a satellite office in Middlesbrough and Scarborough, and require them to travel by train.

Northern Explorer for 2 persons; valid for one to travel alone?

Valid, yes, thanks. As it so happens the second station in question isn't in this specific case.

Northern Explorer for 2 persons; valid for one to travel alone?

1 -day Northern Explorer £35 for one person; £60 for 2 persons. If the two persons are joining exactly the same itinerary at different places (i.e one begins travel at an earlier station than the other; they meet en route) can the one person make that first part of the journey alone using a...

In that case with apologies, I misunderstood. However the point is still valid as regards others who are in a similar situation but have made a different choice.

"Dissipates" Yes, but not Disappear. It's an important distinction. I'm in no way contesting his perceived or actual "need" for a long-range car easily fuelled. I'm in no position to judge. But it should be part of everyone's judgement that all fossil emissions are having an increasingly...

    Taxing road users by mile

It's not a surcharge. It's a tax, and being a tax, it can apply however the government wants it to. It's not a ring-fenced fund (eg for roads), and it's not a bill for any goods or service specific. It's a tax on using a UK registered vehicle - at all.

No. Mine weighs almost 2 tonnes. However the rest of your assertion that accompanied that is what is untrue. They don't handle or perform worse than often much lighter ICEs*. They don't roll more; less in reality (for most designs). They don't wear brakes as they are not used to anything...

Are ICEs perfect in every way? Every car review I watch reveals all their flaws. Of course not is the answer - in both cases. There is a big difference between an actual factual mistruth* and differing opinion and/or use-case scenarios. And, no, I don't have a 5-bed house with acres of...

In many EVs, the overall architecture has the entire battery pack (the heaviest single component) occupying the space between the wheels, underneath the passenger compartment, and at or below the level of the wheel bearings. That has these impacts: - better weight distribution (vs. an engine...

For the Far North line could a single car from a 158/9 be turned into a 90mph detachable Highland Explorer active travel (cycles etc) car..

I believe there is a (long-standing) problem with much of the Railway here. If you measure current activity, you may conclude that bike transport is not a significant issue; it may well not be. The underlying question, though, is why that is the case. Here's a perspective. In the past, one...

    Car hire question

Perhaps I should have rephrased that as For the duration of the hold, you need to have sufficient available funds in your bank account to cover that hold PLUS anything else you wish to spend for real, as it will affect what your bank will allow you to use. Not everyone has an extra few hundred...

    Car hire question

Agreed. There are many cases (and car rental is one of them) where providers' policy is to take a "pre-authorisation" sum* in addition to the base cost, to cover things like damage etc. Typically, for example, self-inflicted damage (eg to a car, by you, trashing the interior) is not insured...
