I think most (if not all) of the people starting in Feb did assessments at Newport in Wales, so arrangements might be different. I think the paper letter and authority to travel for the assessments came the week before.
When I had my manager interview at Reading, they didn't...
I had exactly the same thought. I think it was the bit in the original job advert that said part of the course was residential. However I asked the question at the Manager Interview and was reassured that Reading was the base for training, and anything elsewhere would be just on a day away basis.
Reading! It's in the building where I had my interview - a single storey building next to the roads entering the depot.

I think Gatwick is top link - reserve of senior drivers.
If you're staring out I believe it's Paddington to Oxford, plus a couple of branchlines, plus depot shunting at Reading. Then picking up extra routes as you gain seniority.
I thought the 150s were more than a rumour?
Aren't the HSTs (and probably 180s) covered by the more senior links? Having said that I think trainees on LTV used to move up into their instructor's link and end up driving HSTs during training. No idea if that's still the case.
