Polmont is to have 4tph to Glasgow (2 via Cumbernauld) and 4tph to Edinburgh? Luxury if true! When I think of my childhood in the 50s and 60s waiting for ages for a train to Glasgow with my parents, we would have been glad to have seen ' any ' train. From memory many went via Grahamston. True...

Better to think of Scotland as having a fairly dense population of 3million or so in it's well-connected central belt, with two or three large cities outwith it ! Longannet is very accessible!
