Whilst not exactly a new build engine, it would seem to make sense for Didcot to build a couple of spare standard boilers so they could switch them between there different engines requiring the same boiler which would speed up overhauls massively.

Maybe steam it with just the casing and no other modifications as that could be done relatively cheaply then have it run the heratige circuit for a few years to raise the Money for it to be fully un-rebuilt when it comes in for overhaul

I quite agree it would be nice to see some of the unrestored engines taken to a place where they could be useful

Your probably right it was just a idea but some more cooperation and better organised fundraising could certainly be a major bonus for the heratige movement
