    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

There was no need of you to get shirty. bb21 was kind enough to clarify for me that it is not as simple as an accusation of intention to avoid a fare, which addresses my point.

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

Let's simplify things. The allegation is that my friend intentionally avoided paying the fare. To prove that beyond all reasonable doubt, surely they would have had to wait until she had left the station or that it was doubtless that she had passed all ticketing points AND members of staff...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

Just a final thought. I've written a reply letter on behalf of my friend and she is due to send it out. Obviously, I'd like to run it past you, but am not sure if here is a 'safe' place to do so, as NR people might read it. Would you instead advice PMing it to someone in the know?

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

That misses the point. 'The man on the platform said I could travel....so long as I got a ticket at the next reasonable opportunity.' If you're then caught outside the station without a ticket, that doesn't count. My experience of the court system is that the onus is on the prosecutor...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

Interestingly, I suggested that to her today. I've worked out that, across a two-and-a-half-year university course, she will have taken at least 580 journeys between those stations - all paid for, all without incident. Her bank statement will show lots of £6.20 (or whatever the fare is)...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

I agree with this - and have told her this, but she maintains that she genuinly intended to pay - as many people do each day - from the members of staff with portable machines. For example, if I set off from (ticketless station) Moses Gate to Piccadilly, changing at Salford Crescent. By...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

Thank you - very good advice. She is adamant that she offered to pay the fare at the point, as he whole reason for approaching the member of staff was to buy a ticket - knowing she had to get home that night. She has done the same route for two-and-a-half years on most weekdays without any...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

I've asked her for clarification on this. It probably doesn't help her case. - she got off the train at platform 1 - rather than taking the stairs towards the front of the station, she went through the underpass, turned left and then went up the ramp between platforms 3 and 4 - she says...

    Northern Rail fare dodge letter

A friend (it's not me) got a letter on Saturday from Northern Rail You can see it in this link: http://postimg.org/image/5bg5wlgxh/ The facts are - she arrived at Chorley station at peak time and found the queue longer than five minutes - she asked a member of staff if she could board...
