    Railtours in Ireland

C&L have a limited amount of diesel locos certified for passenger use, it is hoped to use LM114 and LM384, the later newly restored and yet to work a passenger train in preservation. I understand the RPSI are running a mainline GM tour on the Saturday, so a good excuse for a diesel weekend in...

    Railtours in Ireland

Full details TBC, but provisionally, Táilte Tours will be organising a "Mini Railtour" at the Cavan & Leitrim Railway on Sunday 9th August using some of the line's diesel fleet (timed so as to be reachable by service train from Dublin). Source: I'm the organiser :) I hope to have full details...

Irish 121 class locomotive started for the first time in preservation

The ITG successfully started 121 class loco 124 at Downpatrick on Saturday 14th June, more info (and video) at https://www.irishtractiongroup.com/2025/124-lives Quite an exciting time for Irish enthusiasts, personally I've always preferred the Bo-Bo locos to the 071s but I guess I'm a heretic!

ITG Moyasta locos move to Downpatrick

190 was successfully started on Saturday, not bad considering it last ran in November 2009!

    Class 67 Locomotive Questions.

That's an excellent point I never considered before... does anyone count the MTU-fitted power cars as a different class to what they were before?

    Class 67 Locomotive Questions.

There's something quite weird about seeing what to my mind is a 'modern' loco going for scrap (crash damaged ones excepted). But I suppose 25 years is longer than the Deltics were in service...

Táilte Tours - The Eyre Lee Bird railtour - Cork-Galway-Return 5th April 2025

Yeh, I believe it's happened on a handful of occasions, Galway drivers don't sign for them so they tend to be kept away from it. I estimate it to be at least 20 years since one turned up in Galway in "Arrow" livery, probably not since they covered some Sunday only workings out of Heuston.

Táilte Tours - The Eyre Lee Bird railtour - Cork-Galway-Return 5th April 2025

This is the first visit of a 2600 class to Galway in quite a number of years, and quite possibly a good 20 since one arrived there in the orange/black "Arrow" livery (they did work Sunday only trains there in the 90s/early 2000s but are otherwise rare birds there, the 2700 and later 2800 class...

Táilte Tours "The Great Southern Railway Centennial" 16th November 2024

Times for this tour now confirmed 1729415383 Now added, this loop was out of use for a while and has no scheduled services through it so might be one those who like their bobbins. (The tour is scheduled to cross a service train there and with only platform the loop is the only option :) )
