5100mm running edge of rail (below) to soffit (underside) of structure. Allows for OHLE and standard clearances. Also allows for up to W12.
Do not use this info in a design without confirming it for yourself. I ain't taking any design liability!
(Getting the crayons out...) Personally, I reckon Killingbeck (junction of York Road and Selby Road) would be a slightly better place than Osmondthorpe for a suburban station. You've got a fair chunk of derelict land to the east of that roundabout (looks like it used to be an indoor adventure...
I would add to that... Nobody wants to be the one responsible (and getting shouted at by the people in silly wigs) for saying "Yes, let's get rid of this bit." even if that bit is just repeating some information from a previous page on a form.
Just to add to the discussion about Leeds in particular, the West Yorkshire Mass Transit proposed routes through Leeds seem to avoid the bus station completely. Only one of them (L4) goes anywhere near the bus station. To me, that is a missed opportunity.
West Yorkshire Mass Transit - Routes...
There has been a fair bit of new housing between Swinton and Aldwarke over the past while. This may be closer to Rawmarsh or Kilnhurst than Aldwarke though.
I'm not suggesting 4-tracking for an Elland Road station. I am, however, suggesting that the train take over from the PR1 bus. This would...
I've put some comments in red above. My aim here is to try and keep a lot of the benefits (and add a few more) while losing some of the more difficult and expensive parts.
One area I think might have potential is supermarket logistics. We know that Tesco does have some Anglo-Scottish services, but I think there's room for more. For example, getting large amounts of product to distribution centres, like Asda's near Normanton (<1 mile from a freight yard) or...
Is there anything in particular (big concerts, football matches, carnivals) on in Manchester over those five days? I was just wondering.
I would hope that NR have picked one of the quietest times of year to do this work.
Personally I like the muppet, and the tortoise. Personal opinion, though.
Now if we could get a CrossCountry doll, along with some pins (after having the "pleasure" of using their services yesterday evening)...!
I imagine I could get a class 91, a DVT and a few first class carriages (including a buffet car) fairly cheap quite soon. Let's see what acceleration we can get with three coaches instead of nine! Might also get a diesel or battery loco for when I'm heading from Yorkshire to Birmingham, for a...
I can understand the reluctance for barrow crossings, even if I agree with you to an extent. Part of it will be the stopping distance. Trams can generally stop on sight, whereas a 2000 tonne train carrying wood chip to Drax isn't going to "stop on a dime". You mention the low number of trains on...
It would be worth confirming that bit in bold above, if the powers that be were serious about putting in that platform face for Donny trains (which they're not - it's only a suggestion). I think you're right, but I'm not one of those law-talking guys.
I think lifts would make the whole thing a...
Yes, it's a shame that the economics didn't work for the PTE. However, looking at the site, it doesn't look that difficult (read: expensive) to get a platform in place on either side, and you wouldn't need a footbridge in this location.
From Google Earth...

For me, an important thing to get this working would be to get the linespeeds up where we can. It was alright having 30mph (or whatever painfully slow speed it was) between Knottingley and Goole) back when big heavy coal trains were using and abusing the tracks. Now that they've gone (with the...
