Sheffield to Carlisle, one service a week every Sunday, departing Sheffield around 10.15. No return service though, and this Northern service has been running a few years now.
Are Cross Country trains packed because a lot of people on those trains are doing the likes of Sheffield to Leeds, Sheffield to Chesterfield? Remove those people from these services, and people travelling from Sheffield to Bristol / Glasgow and the like, might get a seat.
Those figures for Newark Northgate cant possibly be right, that's more than the pax from Sheffield to London. Just checked and you seem to have doubled the pax numbers for all the other stations on your list. Am i missing something here?
Just extend the MML from Sheffield to Brighton via London Bridge, when the wires reach Sheffield. The fast Sheffield service goes as far as Brighton and the hourly slow service goes as far as Gatwick. Some of the Thameslink services terminate at St Pancras.
If the wires go as far as Doncaster...
