I relocated to take up a Signaller job last year, and I know of at least two others who did too so it's not a barrier. I stated on my application form I would be required to relocate and I confirmed again in my interview my willingness to relocate and it was not an issue at all. I think they're...
Yes the class got 94+% in the exams because everyone got their head down and put the hours in. That is the only way to do it because there is a huge volume of information to learn. Start learning it early, don't wait until a week or two before the exams to memorise material. Some used mnemonics...
The majority of us studied on our own in the evenings when I completed the TCB course recently and everyone passed with good scores. I preferred it that way as it was the only way I could see myself learning and memorising all the information needed for the exam. One or two group revision...
We were all issued a tablet/laptop at the beginning of the course for us to use throughout. There were quite a few of us using them to take notes in class. I'm not sure if that was location specific but there shouldn't be an issue with you using your own in class if you wanted to
I've just completed IST and our hotel wasn't serving food so we had to order takeaways to our rooms every night. We had the option to study in small groups at the training centre but most of us studied on our own and we all passed with good grades.
I think it depends on what the hiring manager is looking for and who else applies. Last year I applied for approx. 10 Signaller roles over the space of a couple of months, most were grade 2, one a 6 and an 8. I used the same application answers for them all and I was only invited to interview...
Yes I've read the updated government guidance online this evening which is applicable from 5th November and it does say hotels can remain open for work purposes so hopefully all should be well and things will continue without disruption.
I'm currently at IST and been told course will likely continue as long as hotel remains open. I'm hoping hotels will be allowed to remain open for key workers and that we can be classed as such!
I'm currently at signalling school on a TCB course with a VDU (Westcad) simulator. It is a computer simulation program with keyboard/tracker ball setup. There are two desks, one is for the trainee and the other is for the assessor. The assessor desk can be used to set up different scenarios for...
Yes I was anticipating it being a long process when I first applied. I was told at my assessment day that if I was successful I'd be going to signalling school in May/June which would have been 3-4 months after offer, however I'm now starting school in October. It seems to be a postcode lottery...
