TFW removing off peak day returns

We lost off peak tickets from Cwmbran many years ago. They still exist from Newport to Cardiff and from Cardiff westwards where competition exists. But i rarely ( except on Summer Sunday mornings) make a local trip by train as I travel free on the bus.

    Senior Railcard Survey

I’ve just renewed my Senior Railcard and this time have splashed out on a three year one. If I couldn’t use it before 0930 then it would be worthless. I’ve made several cricket trips since the start of April which saw me boarding trains before 7a.m.. I have two more in the next week or so...

TNT Sports leaving Discovery+ for HBO Max

Picked up on this this morning. The last day of TNT sports on Discovery+ will be March 26th. After that it is transferring to HBO Max when it launches in Britain. Stand alone Sports Package remains the same price. Too much too hope that Warner Brothers/Discovery will automatically transfer our...

    Cricket

Those of us who get TNT sports via Discovery+ have access to the ad free International Feed. That would have been nice during the Ashes. Hope that continues through the series.

Email from TfW that JourneyCheck alerts will no longer be available from 1st January 2026

It’s a bit annoying. I have several companies journeycheck pages bookmarked but I wonder if anyone actually reads what is published. Today TFW have come up with this gem- 16:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central due 19:44 16:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central due 19:44 will be...

The end of Radio 4 on longwave, and other radio oddities/broadcasts of interest

Wasn’t Radio 2 on Longwave before Radio 4? We cricket fans have a certain affection for LW as Test Match Special found a home there after being booted off Radio 3…now settled on Sports Extra of course. Atlantic 252 and a short lived sports station were on there and RTE took over 252 KHz for a...

    Minor Famous People Spotting

I once saw David Icke on Hereford station while he was still known for sports presenting and Bernard Bresslaw ,of Carry On fame, was once sat in the same row as me at Sophia Gardens watching cricket. Think he was appearing at the New Theatre. Also saw Bill McClaren on Cardiff Central after a...

Significant places in your town/city that you've never visited?

If a local pub can be considered significant then I’ve never been in ‘The Crows Nest’ the pub on my Cwmbran estate.

Word or spelling errors which frequently crop up on social media posts (Trivia)

Just spotted this on the LBC news site A Ryanair flight from London Luton has been forced to abort its landing after the plane's GPS signal was 'jammed' near the boarder with Russia.

Could the Heart of Wales timetable be improved?

Last season , with a Saturday train arriving into Llandovery at 1310, I travelled to watch my rugby team, Newport, play at Church Bank. Okay,I had to wait until 1805 to leave but Llandovery have a nice clubhouse. If I want to go by train next week( 4th January) I have to leave at the crack of...

Trivia: Football grounds next to railway lines.

Having seen the new 3G pitch at Llandovery RFC clearly marked for football I reckon I can put Church Bank in . The Heart of Wales line runs behind the main stand and if fortunate enough to be there when a rare train passes by you can see it clearly from the standing terrace opposite. Timetable...
