Definitely this makes UK-Denmark a lot easier. I suppose you could have done London-Hamburg in a day and transferred there onto the Snalltaget to Sweden to avoid staying over somewhere, but it did make the travel chain somewhat fragile.

Btw, I've noticed the Vienna-Belgrade EC trains and EC153/158 Hunyadi Budapest-Belgrade have disappeared from Vagonweb. These 3 pairs of trains were to be operated by the MÁV Classic hauled EC stock. Vagonweb - MÁV EC 2026

Something else that I've come across: RJ 256/259 Wien Hbf-Praha Hl.N have been extended to/from Linz at the beginning/end of the day. Dep. Linz Hbf. 05.32, arrival from Prague 00.28. Given this is 2 hrs longer than the EC via Summerau, it's clearly not aimed at end-to-end traffic.

Do you know where you saw that article? I know there was something in the notes of the ERTT but hadn't seen anything more. It's crazy that Serbia has no hauled stock left - it used to pop up on a number of trains in that region which no longer run!

I might have been exaggerating a bit, but they do take 42 minutes from Hbf to Westbahnhof (and the same in the opposite direction) with 2 hours layover in Westbahnhof. 12-14 minutes dwell at Hbf and 22 minutes between Meidling and Westbahnhof. AFAIK the running to Westbahnhof is indeed new...

I can actually see 4 daily EC services in each direction - one of them runs only between Bratislava and Wien Westbahnhof. Good spot on the Marchegg (Gr), I can't see that on the Scotty App. They do take nearly an hour from arriving at Hbf to arriving at Westbahnhof!

I've noticed that the ZSSK Eurocity trains to Bratislava and Košice are running to and from Wien Westbahnhof, at four-hourly intervals. Presumably these will also run via Marchegg, although the Zurich-Bratislava RJX will still run via Petržalka.

This reminds me of Liart (FR) between Charleville-Mezières and Hirson, which for a number of years was served only westbound by a single daily train. The station now appears to have closed altogether!

Maybe this is the real answer! Could also be DB IC stock I suppose as seen on other routes. ÖBB seem quite short of IC stock in general still. I suspect the real picture will unveil itself in time! I believed the short-term need for the diversion was due to trackworks in Germany - rerouting...
