Could the line to Keswick ever reopen?

I have travelled on the bus and as it wends its way out of Penrith it then basically follows the A66 into Keswick? the railway could stop at similar places as the oringinal line eg Threlkeld (a good base for climbing Saddleback ) in purbeck the local authority has supported the Swanage...

Stations where closure/a parliamentary service is probably sensible

I can understand the idea to close Wedgewood but Barlaston is a reasonable size and out in the sticks, it seems a shame to run the servcie down (as a bus service only now) when the infrastructure is in place and as with Stone down the road is it possible to reinvigorate the usage of the station...

stone staffs - junction where only 1 route is available to passengers

Stone in Staffordshire is a smashing spot, and the station building is lovely albeit not in use for Station users ! Passengers can use the platforms on the stafford route, but not on the main line to London (the virgin trains don't stop) This seems a shame but probably justified in terms...

Could the line to Keswick ever reopen?

the south Lakes does have rail connection option and it has alway sstruck me as a shame that this isnt the same for the north? Surely in sustainability terms if you could connect from the WCML and either save the money from the CCC funded Penrith bus or spend it on improving the bus servcies...

    Confused?

I have recently had a similar experience, got through all the tests well but failed on the final driver manager interview.....not sure why, I've asked for feedback but haven't heard a dicky bird and not expecting to tbh the toc was pretty slow and understaffed .... There are some other...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

And mostly on the side of the anti HS2 folk. Any news report should at least quote the report as being produced by "the rabidly right wing and anti railway think tank..." No surprises that they are against hs2 then?

    Stations next to the beach

My favourite by miles is aberdovey straight into the dunes of a gem of a beach and there is also an 18 hole mini golf on the landward side of the tracks. We love it!

Stations that should be more important than they are?

Hellifield is a superb station that is aching to have new life breathed into it, especially as it is still a junction station still albeit for limited services

    Closed Lines That Could Re-Open.

Thanks Cyrus. No i realise that the formation has some obstacles, but I wondered about the strategic/regional importance.... I guess the answer is neither is important as no authority is pushing for it to happen..... I guess I would just like winchester to get chesil back again and for...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

Quoted for truth! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Quoted for greater truth! Hs2 needs to get their comms organised and get some big hitters out to answer these views with some passion and sound bites. The only thing that will push the cost of hs2 up is the legal bills...

    Closed Lines That Could Re-Open.

Although it has been stated that its too difficult I wonder if the reinstatement of the connection from alresford to winchester really is that expensive/difficult? The alternative to the busy sw mainline would be good both for passengers and freight... Is suspect it's the connections into the...

    Closed Lines That Could Re-Open.

Farnham to gosport should have happened but its now a very expensive bus route Penrith Keswick... Would that have the same use as the oxenholme-Windermere branch which is now going to be electrified? It seems possible that the planning authority who have safeguarded the line might be in...

First Great Western - Trainee Drivers

I had my dm interview over a week ago and first hr say that no news does not necessarily mean bad news. .. as they are working througb folk in batches apparently. That said I am not overly hopeful as surely you would sort the yeses out first? Have there been any no's from those penta interviews...
