    Cathedrals Express 07/03/15

You're absolutely right. I should have worded that better.

    Cathedrals Express 07/03/15

It was 34067 Tangmere hauling the train. It was confirmed by a notice I received at work. Obviously after the investigation it may turn out not to be the drivers fault at all but initially they're saying Cat A.

    Cathedrals Express 07/03/15

Confirmed as a Cat A SPAD pending investigation of course. It was the signal protecting Wootton Bassett Jnc so could have been a lot worse!

    Cathedrals Express 07/03/15

I've read reports 1Z67 had a Cat A SPAD at Wootton Bassett Jnc earlier. Don't know any details yet though.

FGW Hire 159 for High Summer services?

I'm an FGW driver based at Westbury and although I've only physically been trained on 158's (as well as 150's and 153's) on my driving licence I'm signed off to drive 159's too. This is because FGW do have a proper 3 car 158, it has a proper middle coach without a cab, so therefore it's the same...

    Drivers: heads out?

As a driver I always have a look out of the window for various reasons: • double check the whole train is on the platform • get fresh air on a hot day • boredom • check no one is putting themselves in danger when departing a station • keep an eye on the late night drunks getting on and off the...

Trees on the line for First Great Western

The most stupid question you have been asked

Not a stupid question, more of a stupid action... Whilst once working at Axminster station on a quiet afternoon I was sat at the desk in the ticket office having a look through the CCTV cameras and witnessed a lady go up the lift on platform 1 then came out the lift and went straight down the...

    Weather-Related Disruption (Dec 2012)

I've heard they're going to try and closed the WoE line west of Yeovil Junction due to the floods from midday today now, apparently the floods are getting really bad and they're getting too worried about running trains over Broom XC, between Axminster and Chard Junc, where it washed out last...

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

I got exactly the same good news! Although I've already passed the Driver Assessment as I've also applied for a drivers job at Weymouth for South West Trains. I passed the assessment back on 1st March but I'm still waiting to hear whether there are positions available at Weymouth yet or not...

    Friends and Family Railcard

This has been a question that often comes up at the ticket office window and it's always a tricky one to explain as simple as possible. To try to put it as simple as possible.. yes you can get Family & Friends Railcard discount as long as you buy a child ticket for the under 5 year old. There's...
