In 2008 Northern ran Manchester to Chorley only then used the cross over to bring trains back. Only TPE ran through to Preston via Wigan.
This time it's even worse. I'm already suffering a reduction in service due to the electric Scottish services already being rerouted away from Preston but...
Yeah I did. Apart from confirming the trains affected it doesn't say anything about whether fTPE have given any thought to those passengers on the Bolton-Chorley corridor now left with a reduced service. Seems they are too busy getting excited over their new leased rolling stock than the...
As a daily commuter between Bolton and Preston of some years standing, I am disappointed and apprehensive at what will happen to the corridor from next month. Both my usual fTPE services to/from Preston remain unaltered including my morning Edinburgh train. But in the evening I no longer have...
Is the only permitted route between these two stations via Blackburn?
I get the train from Bolton to Preston everyday as part of my commute and there's a guy who everytime he buys a ticket on board gets a Darwen to Preston return yet does the same Bolton-Preston fTPE train as I in both...
The Weekender is branded "Northern Rail services only" and is valid for up to 4 people travelling together on a Saturday and Sunday who choose in advance. To be honest the leaflet I was handed mentioned poor service on the Clitheroe line. I don't use that line. Plus because I'm a season ticket...
Thanks for the prompt and helpful replies people.
I'm sure I've overheard the station announcer at Bolton indicating some direct Bolton to Chester service at some point in the not too far distant past. But clearly rare or even not running at all now.
Looks like getting to Altrincham and...
Like many in the area, I have applied for "the weekender" unlimited rail travel on Northern's network on selected weekend dates.
The other half and I have never been to Chester and just fancied it a week on Saturday. However, I note Bolton to Chester using Northern Rail only is not all that...
Thanks for these useful responses.
I rarely travel the section of line at weekends where my season ticket is valid and if I do it's usually with my gf who will have a standard ticket for the journey.
As the trolley went past she reminded me "do you not get anything free" and it was that...
I have a standard class monthly rail season ticket between bromley Cross and Preston valid via Bolton on fTPE.
When I last checked some months ago, TPE offered monthly or longer ST holders a complimentary first class service at weekends between your two stations.
If that remains valid...
Correct me if I'm wrong. Were the new platform canopies not erected to help alleviate passenger concerns re long transfer times due to long walk down to over-bridge from train stopping points? And If so why, with all externally visible signs of work having gone some weeks back are trains still...
I've got a friend who wants to travel today around 3pm from her home in Lancaster ultimately ending at Atherton. But she wants to go via Manchester Oxford Road and stop off for a short break to meet a friend before then going on to Atherton.
So her journey will be Lancaster (dep 3pm) -> Man...
Many thanks for the prompt input into this. I have edited my original post to not land anyone in trouble!
I presume the idea of a Bolton to Wigan ticket at a substantial reduction to what I pay currently is a definite no go then for my Bolton to Preston journey?
Thanks again for your help.
EDITED:
For years I have been buying monthly ST between Bolton and Preston. However, recently I was advised to renew between Bromley Cross and Preston as this would be cheaper but still valid on the Bolton to Preston line served by fTPE.
END OF EDIT:
My query is whether any other permitted...
If memory serves £4m was being spent at Bolton. I'm sure I'm not the only daily commuter using Bolton to wonder where the vast majority of that has gone.
