    Class 701 'Aventra' passenger opinions

Sorry, but that’s a totally ridiculous argument. The metro routes round here need capacity not tables. My half hour into Waterloo would definitely NOT be enhanced by fewer people sitting down but with tables in front of them with the others taking up the standing space that I’m already using...

    Class 701 'Aventra' passenger opinions

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/class-701-aventra-trains-for-south-western-railway-progress-updates.148717/ I'm impressed with the 701’s capacity (especially against a 450!). They do appear to hoover passengers up quite comfortably. Not experienced anything like...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Acknowledged, and I do know that really. The alternative of two missing consecutive services would have been worse since I’d have been fighting all those additional people on the one I was on but the bad luck of two on the trot and one a skip-stopper or semi-fast was hard to accept in the moment.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Both 1D49 and 2D51. 2 consecutive single 450s through Epsom, one a stopper and the other a semi-fast. without realising, I got as far as Motspur Park on a Chess Sth service, planning to hop on the 1st for one stop, doubled back to Wimbledon instead for the second, failed to get on that and...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I love how everything on here has to be down to “a problem” rather than life happening to be annoying at the moment. Perceptions of conspiracy are normally the result of nothing more than bad luck. What I was going to say is that I was looking at 015 on my ride in this morning and not seeing...

SWR class 458/4 - possible withdrawal speculation

I’ll take it! The standing is so much more comfortable than the 455s even in near crush load conditions.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

The surprise pair of 450s on what I think was 2D51 on Tuesday was most unwelcome. And full. I guess they didn’t have to open the doors as much as a stopper would have but it still managed to be late. To be fair, that was more down to the 701 a couple in front of it loading and unloading at...

No, but it’s either been there for weeks or there’s a different one there every week/day/other interval of choice. I see it regularly.

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

    Still there this morning.

If that were a justification for not putting a train into service, serous questions to the management would need answering!

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Agreed. With the change from 455s and their centre cabs to work from, I felt a bit of sympathy for the change in working practices that would need adoption but my regular experience as a passenger has been positive. I don't have a public facing role and can’t imagine having one without the...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I was on it. Didn’t realise it was it’s first trip out though. The fast run from Motspur Park was great for me - got in on time from a ten minute late start at WCP.

At least it *should* have 5 coaches in each direction, livery wise. The concept of that asymmetric pattern on a unit with an odd number of carriages makes my mind itch. Of course, they may have wrapped each 5 coach half-unit individually on a 3/2 split!

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

You must travel on a different fleet of 701s to me. I hear it once or less on each daily run into or out of Waterloo. Having said that, and being about to say that I’m fine with the PIS ’as is’, I‘m going to go full hypocrite and admit that I can’t abide the ‘Croydon Tramlink’ audio...

And where would you put your money on the rail industry lying on that particular sliding scale? (I’m not betting because I know the answer)
