Why did you need "a name" ? Just report it, it won't take too long for the management to work out who was on the roster at whatever particular time.

I believe this was part of "any permitted" being withdrawn and replaced with a dot (.) in its place. That was unworkable or the like and something else had to go in the route space on the ticket.
This nonsense shouldn't be on vertical departure screens, if there are delays it uses up lines on the screens and people can't see the trains that are actually running and on time.
You choose "TOD" on the ticket issuing system when doing the sale and the customer gets a receipt that acts as authority to travel to the first location with a ticket vending machine.

It was a financial choice by the further away from London TOCs to have PRT only.
The guard couldn't have printed the TOD- because the ticket was one of LNER's single leg pricing tickets with a maltese cross/"via London" marker on it, although the reservations were on the XC normal route. The PRT (Paper roll ticket) wouldn't have worked on the underground- it would have to be...
I've been meaning to say on this thread that a lot more people have their railcards checked than they think. With a lot of ticket sales through the Trainline (spit) these days there's the point to be made that on the top of a ticket shown from their app it will say "Show Railcard" which it will...
