But at this point each application is anonymised when presented to the hiring manager.

They don’t med screen because there’s a suspicion. The more serious incidents have med screening to ‘rule it out’.
We trust our driver on the whole. Now, ‘for cause’ screening, ie because a manager has requested it, would be a different matter.

Unfortunately the 8 week full pay thing has garnered poor attitudes. But while the union continue to ‘back’ these people at the expense of their workmates that’s not going to stop.

It has unfortunately brought the worst out in one or two candidates.
Definitely some burnt fingers recruitment wise so Driver Managers will be ultra scrutinising this time to try and prevent some more slipping through the net.
