My bus pass issued by Medway Council last October has so far worked fine in SE England and in Swindon, Bristol, Cirencester and Norwich. In Milton Keynes it generated a not valid message on both Arriva and Stagecoach buses and also on the Stagecoach bus from Stratford upon Avon to Leamington...
For me it's cost. The huge difference between coach fare from Medway to reach London before 8.30am with coachcard discount - and train with senior railcard not valid .
I catch the 007 06.15 from Hempstead Valley to London regularly and it's at least 75% full.
An earlier service was recently introduced leaving Hempstead Valley at 05.05 but that was only about 20% full when I caught it on a Thursday.
Flixbus seem to be steadily building up passenger numbers despite that reservation system. Maybe some unattached people like to meet and greet a stranger on a coach journey, it could even lead to a lifelong friendship or more.
I'll stick with National Express though.
On National Express if I don't reserve a seat I can sit in any unreserved seat.
On Flixbus as I understand it if I don't reserve I will be allocated a seat which may well be next to another solo passenger.
While I can probably move if there are empty double seats, if I wait until the coach...
That's all fair enough but on National Express it is implicitly stated that anyone can sit there and just for absolute clarity this is the assisted travel single seat, not the one right by the door sometimes occupied by a second or trainee driver. It cannot be booked or reserved online as far...
I like that single front seat 1b. When I board I habitually ask the driver if it's reserved and if not whether I'm okay to sit there, a couple of weeks ago at a major coach station but not London I was told a firm no because I hadn't reserved it.
I said I had sat there on my outward journey...
Is it fair to assume that seamless connections means guaranteed, and improved means less waiting time for a connecting service than has been the case to date ?
Thanks again. I was trying to think how as a 19 year old on his own I filled 5 hours in Petersfield and another memory came back of a cafe with a pinball machine in the town centre which I played for ages.
Thank you so much, I'm now 99% sure that Petersfield was the town I visited about 50 years ago and haven't been back since which I will now rectify. I guess that's why it went out of my mind as it's not an obvious destination for a day trip like Portsmouth or Guildford.
Can anyone help me complete a memory ? In the mid 1970s, most likely 1975, I went on a day trip on a National Express coach one Saturday. It was the first time I'd travelled on National Express and the furthest I'd ventured on my own at the time.
The coach would have picked me up either at...
Sad but not surprising news.
I must have made around 200 journeys @ £1 or free, mostly London to Cardiff, over a 5 year period. Once aware of the system - services for the date 90 days ahead went on sale every day at exactly midnight - I would frequently be sitting at the PC at 23.59 ready to...
