There doesn't seem to be an 18:02 Avanti service from Euston to North Wales anymore. So, it's either getting the stopper to Stafford or waiting until the 1833 departure for the Stafford stop. Really puts a damper on the house-buying plans.

And insane house prices in the traditional commuter belt mean commuting from intercity stations with reasonable nearby house prices, like Peterborough and Stafford.

I looked at next Friday and the LNER website wouldn't allow me to buy an off-peak travelcard. Though, on the other hand, I don't get the semi-flexible tickets on this flow, so maybe I can still buy it at a ticket office. Quite confusing.

Whelp, looks like I'll need to do Advances for my weekly commute on Fridays from Peterborough to London. No more off-peak travelcards, it seems.

I travel once a week from Peterborough to Farringdon. I normally buy an Off-Peak Day Travelcard Zones 1-6, which allows me to take Thameslink if needed. And I did because LNER was delayed for a long time because of problems up north. LNER-only tickets are a recipe for disaster.

I am wondering if Stafford will get better journey times or worse ones after HS2 Phase 1, given that it seems that HS2 trains would go via Birmingham?

I compared them as they're both outer suburban stations and they're close to an intercity station with many more services (Reading and Peterborough). Though, maybe the Trent Valley stations would be a better comparison.

I swear there was a train to Newbury between 5pm and 7pm, which did stop at Maidenhead. Though, Newbury isn't a city. The main fantasy was for Huntingdon to have a fast train journey to and from London. LNER is far more reliable and having a sub 40 minute journey time for Huntingdon would be...

In my fantasy, I’d have Huntingdon served by fast LNER services in a similar manner to some Trent Valley stations being served by Avanti. And Maidenhead has some IC services too, so why not? But I’d suspect that pathing would make that impossible in reality.
