East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Unlikely, as there was still much to do when we passed through Winslow and area a few weeks ago. Sorry, I was driving; so don't have any snaps or definite date!

    Walking and Rambling discussion

I remember visiting the old station at Wheathampstead many years ago, and then it needed better labelling, although we did find it. How was it on your visit?

Professor Kathleen Booth - The inventor of assembly language.

And one of these was the use of computers to lay out electronic circuit board tracks. Whilst I was working for Elliotts we had a sizeable contract for a defence system, and one day I was instructed by my managing director to order that all circuit boards on my project were designed on the...

Professor Kathleen Booth - The inventor of assembly language.

Thanks for posting - I'd never heard of her, but certainly Assembly Language was taught to me at various times. Your link mentioned Iann Barron; for a period he and I worked on the same floor at Elliotts at Borehamwood.

Has the Rochdale Canal been cleared now? I remember it being a total mess back in the late 1950s.

Liz Truss and the Conservative Party.

Truss seemed to have regained some of her confidence at today's PMQs - I wonder if this will last?

How's the path up Ingleborough? I was last there around 30 years ago when it was being "improved" to look more like a Milton Keynes Redway with heavily engineered surfaces; and for me totally out of keeping with a path near the top of a mountain. I hope it's now blended in.

    Water Shortages / Drought

I don't suppose it does, but local papers mention it quite frequently. With regard to siting any new reservoir, finding somewhere with the fewest people to rehouse must be an important factor. At the moment, Anglian Water haven't announced any water supply restrictions, but East Anglia is...

    Water Shortages / Drought

Considering that "experts" have been saying that East Anglia has less rain than the Sahara for many years, I'm surprised the announcement has taken so long. I wonder what they will do with the earth removed? How about making a hill in East Anglia!

Liz Truss and the Conservative Party.

Have we now got our (gas?) storage systems working again? Seemed crazy to me to let such a facility go out of use.

    Passenger Numbers, Autumn 2022

I'm not from the railway industry, but from an avionics manufacturer and I would occasionally work from home when reports had to be written. My commute was from Harpenden and around 40 minutes (on a good day) to outer London, and negotiating St Albans. When we moved closer, even my kids...

Belgium - a country of charm and interest [not to mention alcoholic bevrages], which is often under-appreciated?

Like many of us, we drove through Belgium on our way to other areas of the continent, and on our first visit we negotiated Brussels with no problem, using the motorway style bypass to the east of Brussels. On a later visit, having missed a sign, we found ourselves approaching central Brussels...

    Car park tickets

No way - I was with my daughter (who lives in Blackpool), and it really did take her around 30 minutes to get the app for Milton Keynes set up and credited so that we could visit the shops, with her car parking suitably validated. (Her son is disabled and that's why we used her car rather than...

    Car park tickets

But is the app the same as used elsewhere? On a recent visit to me in Milton Keynes, my Blackpool based daughter found that the app on her phone didn't work in Milton Keynes. Downloading and installing the one for Milton Keynes took around 30 minutes. The benefit to me was that my grandson...
