If the Sleeper can get to Fort William by 8.30 am (1 hr 25 mins earlier than at present) then it would also connect with the first Mallaig service, giving a 9.53 am arrival at Mallaig. Currently the earliest you can get there is 1.34 pm, and that's following a 2 hr+ wait at Fort William. A 9.53...
There are currently four services from Windermere that run further than Oxenholme - 10:54 to Preston, 12:54 to Barrow (reverses at Lancaster), 18:03 to Manchester Airport and 22:45 to Blackpool North.
In the other direction there are three that originate from further south than Oxenholme...
Why don't they put in a siding at Windermere while they're at it. Then we could see the return of excursion trains, including steam, surely an ideal destination. Who knows maybe even a direct service to London!
Steam-hauled from Hellifield (as opposed to York) to Carlisle and return, with diesel assistance, last Sunday.
Only run one other Sunday, two weeks previously, with steam Hellifield to Carlisle, diesel on return.
It's not in RTT yet but it will be nearer the time, just keep checking.
The times for the Victoria - Appleby leg are in uksteam.
The Saturday is diesel hauled to Thornton then double headed to Inverness.
