Is there any other information you’d like including in future posts?

Incident between Wigan Wallgate and Southport (29th August 2026)

It’s a user worked crossing leading to a farm rather than a through road. It does get reported and it used to be a common occurrence that trains would stop and close them.

Incident between Wigan Wallgate and Southport (29th August 2026)

Sadly an incident a martins lane crossing has been years in the making. The gates are forever being left open. It’s about time they removed it all together.

    Driver > guard communication

Used to happen all the time, especially if the bulb in the pa button was very dim or the sun was shining on it: The yellow button would be pressed and turn on the PA, you’d have to press it again to turn off the PA. The white button was just a beeper to contact the driver.

    Running Out of Fuel

They’re supposed to be checked on a prep, but given how dirty some are it’s clear that they aren’t.

Statistically is the UK railway network now less safe?

I will be interested to know what the report says about that last sentence. In my opinion training quality has certainly diminished in the last decade.

Collision between train and car at Hoghton near Preston (25/06)

I thought bamber bridge controlled the crossings and give release to Preston to clear the signals.

Juding by the pictures it’s hoghton. Mintholme is a cctv crossing and has full barriers.

RAIB investigation launched into a dangerous occurrence at Todmorden, West Yorkshire, 7 May 2026.

Through the train, there’s no reason to go outside there.

RAIB investigation launched into a dangerous occurrence at Todmorden, West Yorkshire, 7 May 2026.

It was a signalled move onto a single line. Was 2 158’s, when he changed ends the cab was ahead of the signal. The northern report mentions reading through to the single on the up L&Y.

RAIB investigation launched into a dangerous occurrence at Todmorden, West Yorkshire, 7 May 2026.

It wasn’t widely known about, even within the railway. Had it not stopped, it would have been all over the news.

Rulebook procedures following failure of onboard AWS/TPWS

Just out of interest have you been on any modern stock built in the last decade?

Rulebook procedures following failure of onboard AWS/TPWS

Given the train involved is part of the 80x fleet I’d take aws fault with a pinch of salt. They have been plagued with faults ever since introduction. Mainly because far too much information is presented to the driver as fault, that is really just meant for maintenance teams. Happy to be...
