Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

I guess 421 wasn't trusted to make the journey to Allerton solo!

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Just arrived into Platform 1 at Wigan NW onboard 769456 from Victoria, which coupled up to 769421 already there. The pair then departed to Allerton ECS.

There's a Class 323 test train running tonight. I saw it as I drove over the bridge by Westhoughton station around 30 minutes ago.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

I've just seen a Network Rail newsletter on the My Westhoughton facebook page (sorry I'm no expert at posting links!), confirming that the wires will be energised on January 1st. Good news.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

Work is continuing on these overnight. I see this as I pass over the bridge by the station in the early hours of most weekdays. I would imagine that they must be nearly finished.

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

Nice trip out to my old neck of the woods (ish). Very interesting about the Hercules Revived. Was an occasional dining venue of mine and the ex-beloved back in the 80's, the local railway interest at the time being at the Rectory in the neighbouring village.

Truck driver shortages - more rail freight?

Maybe the introduction of something similar for car drivers would't be a bad idea judging by the standard of driving seen on the roads these days.

    New Colas 70s

Four new Colas class 70's at Seaforth this morning, presumably unloaded from the Atlantic Conveyor which was docked there.

On this day Diana Rigg was tied to the track at Stapleford!

And of course the points and bay platform aren't there to divert the train at the last moment. I should've remembered that seeing as their removal was one of the first close season jobs I helped with back in about 1977/78!
