    A career as a signaller

Good afternoon all, Would someone be able to help and tell me what grades the different workstations are at the East Kent Signalling Centre in Gillingham are? Many thanks

Is there any incentive for good regulation?

Given that the Sunderland service was late, is usually late and left 1 minute after the Leeds I would suggest that the regulating decision at Belle Isle was made before the signaller knew the Sunderland was ready to depart. As for Peterborough, it would seem like the logical place for the...

    Train Describer Messages

In a nutshell this will be used in the same way as "-LB-" or "BLOK" would be. To remind the signaller that a line blockage has been taken in that area.

    Overtaken Train Question (15/02)

I would argue that it isn't excessive given that the only other options would be for the service to wait somewhere else, run later in the day or to not run at all. Capacity on the ECML at that time of the day is not very good so sometimes trains have to wait for a path.

Disruption around Retford due to signal failure (17/02/19)

In a nutshell, a small signalling fault led to the override system being used. The override system at Retford would normally set routes through the platform lines automatically without any input from the signaller. It failed to do this and locked the panel up. The remote panel, which is a copy...

    Overtaken Train Question (15/02)

I wouldn't say the fact Hull trains are an open access operator makes a difference. I certainly don't base any regulating decisions on that. On the East Coast Mainline it is all about minimising overall delay. A late running Edinburgh train can cause a lot more delay as it heads north and misses...

    Overtaken Train Question (15/02)

1H10, the hull train, was late into Peterborough so was sent slow line for 1S27 to Edinburgh to pass. A move that would usually be done at Doncaster. While 1H10 was on the slow line it made sense to send 1D24, the Harrogate train, through as well so it can make PPM (passenger performance...

    Manually operated crossings

Uffington, Wyfordby and Wymondham on the Syston to Peterborough are manual. As is Swinderby SB on the Newark to Lincoln. I'm sure there are some on the North Staffs too, Hilton atleast

    Doncaster PSB shifts

Good evening all, I was hoping one of the ever helpful forumites might know whether Doncaster PSB grade 8 signallers work 8 or 12 hour shifts? Would any be able to PM me a copy of their base roster? Many thanks in advance.

Dispute with SWR (wanting to part pay with RTV, ended up paying nothing)

All the people described above are able to open a UK bank account that accepts BACS payments. Foreign nationals who are not living in England excepted.

    Something through Stoke-on-Trent station?

Sounds like a stoneblower to me.

    Mom

Certainly on my area us MOMs are increasingly expected to carry out routine tasks when not called to an incident. I spend a lot of my time carrying out fencing checks, junction checks, possession checks, points care etc. etc. but there is certainly still some downtime! As for pay, if it is a...

    Spotters Trespassing

Speaking as someone who has had to respond to a trespasser struck by a train and then clean up the aftermath, I believe it should be treated very seriously. I do not appreciate being regularly called to search a section of line for a trespasser, putting myself, my colleagues and the police in...

    Use of Horns

If you are placing your emergency protection and come accross a tunnel, you place 3 dets 20m apart on the exit side of the tunnel, then you should not walk through the tunnel, but should find another way round to the other side of the tunnel where you continue walking to your 2km point. So why...

Correct. It is 1Q64 which will be a network rail test train.
