Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

The same location was well served by buses - albeit green and cream Eastern Scottish ones - until 1973. Turnhouse Road is the former line of the A9 and it was severed between Turnhouse and Boathouse Bridge in that year to make way for the main runway at Edinburgh Airport. It was left to...

    Dealer Stock Buses

Just ahead of the Stuart Johnson Scania SDs and DDs, there were the 28 Bexleybus Olympians supplied by Kirkby's on a three-year lease - a cancelled GM Buses order if I'm correct. Three had already been finished with DP seats but Kirkby had the seating changed in the others to bus seats.

    Dealer Stock Buses

Much of the Leyland Lynx/Lynx II production was stock build. A friend whose dad worked for LRT in Edinburgh in the late eighties and early nineties told me that when it bought its 12 dual-door Lynx IIs in 1991, VL Bus & Coach (the joint Volvo/Leyland sales house at the time) initially pushed...

Trivia - Do any operators serve places with the same or similar names?

Lothian's service 3 serves two Mayfields. One is an upmarket suburb of Edinburgh, the other a housing estate ("scheme" in Scots parlance) on the southern edge of Dalkeith.

    Made up excuses for lateness

One of Reggie Perrin's excuses was "Eleven minutes late, someone had stolen the lines at Surbiton." It was that one which came to mind when I heard the announcement of the points failure. :)

The ban applies to lorries 10m or over - there's an exemption for service buses.

Meaning of terms such as Cancelled At Point of Entry (CAPE) etc

It is the TD postcode area - TD stands for TweeD. TD12, which is Coldstream, extends across the border (and the Tweed) to Cornhill. TD15 which is Berwick and Holy Island also includes Foulden, just across the border in Scotland.

    Stagecoach South & South East

There was concern that the Yutongs were potentially too heavy for the canal bridge in Queen's Avenue.

    Made up excuses for lateness

Last year I heard an announcement at Guildford saying that the next service to Waterloo had been cancelled due to a signal failure at Surbiton. I remember thinking "maybe Reggie Perrin's excuses weren't that far-fetched after all."

West Coast Motors & Borders Buses

This beggars belief! Rather than run another bus to Canonbie to pick up the passengers and carry on the journey, the passengers now face a 2-hour wait for the next bus north. In addition, there was a breakdown in Eyemouth yesterday afternoon on a Tweedmouth-bound service 60. This was...

West Coast Motors & Borders Buses

I gather that the social media team are based through in Glasgow and only work from 9-5, so any breakdowns/accidents/delays which happen after then aren't communicated. A few weeks ago the last Galashiels-bound 60 of the day was caught in the aftermath of an earlier accident in Eyemouth. That...

West Coast Motors & Borders Buses

Cancelling services seems to be the default across the WCM group, including Borders Buses, though thankfully not on the scale seen in Glasgow. I suspect that all is not well.

West Coast Motors & Borders Buses

Also happened in 1998 with Redby Travel in Sunderland, and in 2001 with Dart Buses in Paisley. Both these companies had buses in Stagecoach livery for services run on Stagecoach's behalf.

Bus services that enter private property (except shopping centres/supermarkets/works only)

Stagecoach Hants & Surrey service 1 from Aldershot to Camberley, Old Dean. The section of route between Aldershot and Farnborough, via Princes Avenue, runs through MOD land.

Bus services that require reversing (except in bus stations)

One from the history books. Prior to its withdrawal in October 2023, several journeys on Travelsure service 34 (Duns - Eyemouth - Berwick) involved a reverse at Priorswalk, Coldingham.
