Merstham to Byfleet & New Haw Route confusion

Hi, My wife has a season ticket to travel from Merstham to Byfleet and New Haw. When She bought it, She was offered three different routes: The first was 'Via Guildford' that seems pretty straightforward as Merstham to Redhill, Redhill to Guildford, and Guildford to Byfleet & New Haw...
