The Railways Bill - discussion about the legislation that will create Great British Railways

Nah just reinstate the BRB and have it absorb NR and all it's assets. Plus the Heritage Railways estate. Got to get those out of National Highways filthy claws.

Conversions of closed rail routes to cycling/walking routes

Yep. I think there's a clause to that effect in the contract when Sustrans convert a route 1762437758 A sealed surface yes but that wasn't the point I was making. They sometimes have nothing 'railway' about them to actually make them interesting to use. To me that's part of the enjoyment of...

The Railways Bill - discussion about the legislation that will create Great British Railways

Basically an essential communications and transport network like the railways should never be in private sector hands.

Conversions of closed rail routes to cycling/walking routes

It's OK if plenty of the 'railway features' like station platforms, buildings and general items of interest are retained. I think the Folkestone path is the way to do it, that actually kept the track in place and had plants growing around it. There's nothing worse than just a dull strip of...

The Railways Bill - discussion about the legislation that will create Great British Railways

In my view privatisation should never have happened, it was idealogical rather than practical and led to fragmentation and subsequent confusion. So much buck-passing. Then there was Railtrack, which wasn't fit for purpose, exposed early on by the dreadful Hatfield derailment and then the...

Most interesting, mismatched, disjointed hotchpotch of a station on the network?

Could be. Really the one in thevstation just a box with a few harassed looking serving staff yet thd other one outside is a (probably listed) building full of harassed serving staff.

Trivia: Platforms you cannot freely 'roam'

Blackpool North virtually patrol with the kind of dogs that eat people. I think they're called Hen Party Terriers 1761233080 Isn't there the remnants of a special 'ticket platform ' at Oban, where the train would stop and the guard could walk along the outside of a non gangwayed train and check...

Most interesting, mismatched, disjointed hotchpotch of a station on the network?

I found the burger kings on the station didn't accept the BOGOF offers ypu used to get on the back of your ticket. The one right outside the station did, though. Handy for waiting an hour for the next fast train without having to rush fir it.

Why are a lot of bus stations now called 'Interchanges'

For me the phrase 'Bus station' conjures up images of seaside towns, days out, art deco (yet dark, dingy and full of snells like diesel fumes, slightly suspicious soap and swarfega) buildings, full English breakfasts in the staff canteen (my dad was an inspector at Pool Valley Bus station in...

    What's your latest acquisition?

The Hornby Southern Suburban 1938 coaches R4378 I've been after this pack for two years. The R4378 Southern Suburban 1938 Coach pack to supplement the T9 and 3 Maunsells. It was literally only available for a year. The T9 I have previously suffered from Mazak rot in the motor mount, a...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Great find! Yes they are. Possibly a S&D theme there. I know they operated over the S&D. I might see if I can find a BR era set as well. That way I can put them behind a Standard 4 with a parcels van on the back.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Yes I bought a full set a few years ago. There was only one CK in the whole shop even then so I had to research the set numbers etc.

    What's your latest acquisition?

My GETS haul for this year consisted of : A Bachmann N class Mogul for £70 (looks pretty much like New Old stock) and another Lord Nelson for £50. This time in Southern Green to match the Malachite liveried rolling stock I've somehow acquired. I can run a Bulleid multidoor 3-set joined to a...
