    Avanti Class 221s to Cross Country

    My guess is that no DfT money is available for leasing costs etc in the current financial year which ends in April.

    I was also on this railtour in the coach behind the loco. 55016 was definitely on 2 engines and was not assisted "up the bank". It later suffered an engine exhaust fire at Peterborough during December 1981 which presumably wasn't repaired due to its impending withdrawal.
