Used to watch the cleaners doing a heavy clean. Basically buckets of detergent and mops, walk up the side of the train washing the sides as you go, rinse off with hose.
It can affect you in different ways, sometimes it helps to talk to a friend or family member. A few weeks back, I went through a red light in my car and received a fine and 3 penalty points.
Had to explain to police I never saw the red light or indeed the junction, too busy thinking about the...
They do suffer from oil leaks, burst pipes, loose fittings, gaskets etc. The breather problem has finally been sorted by a new design.
Normally they do not run hot, however when a fault develops they "derate" and cut the power back. They use hydrostatic fans for cooling; low oil, faulty pumps...
Its an old wives tail about laying in the 4ft and you will be alright, truth is in most circumstances you will be wiped out.
Very little space under modern rolling stock.
Interesting comments in their forum regarding activation of alarms, most while under maintenance.

Used to leave control in forward and DSD alarm sounding while walking down train to check engines (Voyagers).
Local Bombardier staff member pointed out new system and made us aware we could no longer do this, so much for communication :D
Their are only two technicians in Scotland who maintain the QSK19. Any risk to the set through failed engines could possably see sets being routed to Central Rivers for repair under electric power. Just wondering if their jobs would be at risk?
Electric power cannot be good for an engine...
