I have done several ALR's since I turned 60 and got my senior railcard. Planning is everything. I start by writing a list of what I fancy doing. This can be any or all of the following general headings:
bashing certain classes (68's on the Chiltern, 67's on the Manchester to Cardiff routes and...
Rainham and Dagenham offer opportunities to see both freights, Eurostars, and 395's but the later two move fast and being quite close it is almost impossible to get the numbers..
I have done a couple of all line rover tickets recently and have been issued with the non barcode credit card style ticket. I prefer this style as I use it with a senior railcard and it is handy to have them together in the same plastic wallet.
I learnt very early on that rover and ranger...
Certainly 08 675 had red con rods when seen at Manchester Victoria in August 1982.

As did 08956 at Ipswich in August 1988.

I also have poorer pictures of 08 718 (HA) at Edinburgh Waverley in 1989 and 08 755 (HA) at Millerhill also in 1989 and both have red con rods. I also...

Had a trip to Merseyside today. 003 was working to West Kirby and 007 was on the xx:08 from New Brighton. 001 is still stabled at West Kirby and there were three inside Birkenhead North with only 010 identifiable. I assume the others were 017 and 018. The Northern line afternoon services were...
Todays visit saw 007, 017 and 028 on the New Brighton circuit. 010 was seen stabled at New Brighton in the spot where 018 had resided.
Working on the Hillside to Hunts Cross services were 001 + 003 together, 016, 021 and 033 all solo. 016 was a pleasant surprise and it seemed to be working ok...
I have just come back from a successful spin around the Merseyrail system. I hope my observations are of interest.
There were three 507 sets on the New Brighton circuit:
001 (xx:08), 017 (xx:38), and 029 (xx:53). 018 was stabled at New Brighton exactly where it was a week ago.
028 was working...
Maybe that is what happened but it would take time to organise. According to RTT the train behind mine (2U19) that was stuck at Cressington arrived at South Parkway at 13:42 some 151 minutes late. For that to happen 2U18 had to have vacated the platform it occupied.
This begs the question when...
