According to another forum, the problem is shortage of low height buses rather than drivers.

Middlewood on the Hazel Grove to Buxton line is unusual as when driving a car you have to turn 90 degrees to the right to get onto the crossing and another 90 degrees to the left to get off, in both directions. Also a manual crossing with gates like a 5 bar farm gate.

Not by any definition a main line, but the Hindlow/Dowlow branch above Buxton straddles the 1250ft contour - 381 metres. DB, GBRF and FL, between them run several trains each day.

Locos were 'stored' after closure and withdrawal at Stockport Edgeley loco shed including briefly, as I recall, Bahamas 45696. Most of the others were Black 5s and 8Fs, but also one or two tank engines. As an aside 'Bahamas' doesn't look good in black!

Never seen a 153 on Hazel Grove to Buxton, but have seen the 950. Test trains with T&T 37 do cover the line, however.
