    2026 UKR railtours

Which is a bit odd, given that (one assumes) a reasonable and trackable number will choose to spend some time in Keighley or on the KWVR instead.

    Cape Town trains

I covered most of the network last year, and it was largely problem free, with very friendly and helpful staff. At that time, some of the old units were still in use and they were rather down at heel. The new ‘blue trains’ have good visibility and security guards patrolling. Seating is...

Port railway stations in mainland Europe

In a linguistically similar vein, how about Capolago Lago in Switzerland?

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

About as unexciting as it is possible for a ‘Christmas’ menu to be… https://www.lner.co.uk/globalassets/christmas-menu-2024-fc.pdf Then, no doubt, a ‘delicious’ Veganuary fix, whether you want it or not!

    'Night Riviera' cancellations

Not a cancellation, but 1C50 tonight was 70 late from Paddington and with only one seated vehicle. Seated passengers were allowed access to the lounge car. No explanation for the delay given and not mentioned on GWR website/Journeycheck or social media. Back on time by Plymouth.

Why No GWR Trains on the south Pembrokeshire Line Today - Sat 8 July?

I was booked on the GWR from Reading to Pembroke Dock today, and got an email about 10 days ago to say it had been cancelled. No reason given. Nor any info when I tried asking GWR on Messenger. Advised to ‘get the next train to Pembroke Dock’, which I assume is 15 July! I travelled on the...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Does anyone ‘in the know’ happen to have the breakdown of which trains serve which menu? A LNER chat assistant has just advised that, northbound, *only* the weekday 0615 ex KGX serves the Full LNER breakfast. That can’t be right, surely?

Okehampton Line: reopening weekend (20-21 November 2021)

Interesting (and encouraging!) to see that an hourly service ran for much of the opening day. Though I thought NR had indicated that further infrastructure enhancement was required before an hourly service could be run, so was something temporarily lashed up to achieve that yesterday or is it...

Seems the Down Glasgow is caped at Motherwell too.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Yes I am, and no I didn’t. I’m on the seats (surprisingly boneshaking, given the newness) and sniffed out an attendant. Toilet broken in the Aberdeen seated carriage too.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Situation ongoing at Beattock, where the Down Highlander is stuck behind a failed freight (looks to be 4S24 1913 DIRFT-Mossend), which is awaiting a rescue loco. Mail train here as well to complicate /further delay matters. Two hours late and counting... Not the fault of CS of course but...
