Roy,
I’m currently at York starting week 7 of the old TCB course. I have no idea if the new course is easier or harder.
With regards to pre-reads, you will need to know if you are on an TCB or AB course and I would do no more than learn the phonetic alphabet if you don’t know it & key...
I’m currently at York Signalling School in week 6.
Things seem to be moving now as there have been 3 or 4 courses start after ours, also aware that there are also course started at Basingstoke and Ashford.
However you will need to take into account that social distancing is in place so class...

I guess if it’s not for you you will need to look for something else.
As for not getting it all I can do is echo what Tom has said above. I’m starting week 5 at York having been recruited “off the street” and had the same worries at the beginning that after 3 weeks I would fail the exam...

Have no idea what the backlog is. I’m currently at York and from speaking to the trainers it seems things are starting to move again, there have been two AB courses that have started since our course started & there are two AB courses starting at York next week as well as TCB courses...
I’m currently at York at the moment, I believe that we are the last 12 week course, we had our first exam last week in our week three. It covers anything you learnt since the start of the course same thing for weeks 6 & 11 exams. Currently the pass marks are 70%,75% & 80% with one talk up if...
We are staying at the Elmbank Hotel, given the circumstances the staff there are doing a great job looking after us. You are spot on about the pubs in York, a shame they are closed but it's a very big temptation removed!
As someone from the street who has just completed week 1 of signal school at York I can only echo the above comments, reading too much will just almost certainly confuse you. You will also possibly fill your brain up with information that whilst useful you don't need to know at this stage, for...
As part of the formal offer pack you get a form to get a SWR pass for use on the entire Wessex Route which gives you free work & leisure travel, you can subsequently get passes for any dependents for leisure travel only. The pass arrives about 2-3 weeks after you start.
You will need to speak to HR about contracts etc.
With regards to signal school as of today I believe that NWR have suspended all training except a course that is I believe on week 9 at Basingstoke who are now working full out to complete the rest of the course in a few days. I would think that...
