Im starting an apprenticeship with network rail and I have been given a choice between the NRDC and CARE schemes. Im 23 at the moment and will (hopefully) eventually be working in S&T. Any thoughts as to which is best? I really am a bit confused as to the difference between the two.

I'm sorry to hear that mate, dont give up, give it another bash next year. Remember to email them to ask for feedback on the assessment day too, it will help you out next time or in anything else you apply for.

Not as bad as I thought it would, I actually relaxed a lot during the interview. The two fellows who interviewed me were very nice, it didn't feel too formal. The test was ok, I had time to correct a few answers I had wrong. I was likely a little too quiet and unassertive in the group exercise...

I will cheers, did they give you any sort of feedback after the assessment? I know they dont at earlier stages but at assessment centre stage you'd think there are few enough candidates to be able to give some.

I'm sorry to hear that, there's always next years and now you know what to expect for next time. If you don't mind me asking, were the tests anything like the practise ones they gave in the email? and did they ask any funny interview questions?

Ask if you can take the exam at a different time due to extenuating circumstances? I really cant think of anything else.

I just got invited today to an assessment centre on the 6th June. I'm nervous as hell and surprised that I got through, I know I did badly on the maths test and not so great on the diagrammatic reasoning test. 8 days notice seems cutting it a bit close, cant help but feel they were holding out...

They finally go back to me today telling me id got through to the situational judgement test, Iv taken it and I'm now waiting back from that. Is there no one else applying on here this year? The 2011 thread seemed huge.

Cheers for that, I was just curious. To Mr Sam, thats actually one of my motivations for applying. At 23 I really want to get out there on my own instead of still living at home. The applications sent off now I'm just anxiously awaiting a response which I know can take several weeks at least...

I too am applying this year for a signals position in Preston, with track as my second choice. I seem to be fortunate in that the application system seems to think Preston has 3 depos all with various different positions available so perhaps they are taking on more than average. This thread and...
