Many thanks for this detailed reply. I support your decision to spell it out in detail, it really could be a life saver.

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

I’m almost too embarrassed to ask this, but am I right in remembering that it is possible to cross the tracks safely at Kingscote under supervision of Bluebell staff?

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

That is one fabulous timetable! I’ve printed two copies of it, one to carry around next weekend and a much higher quality professional print which is to be framed. It’s a really clever, award-worthy design which enabled me to time travel back to when I was young, ok younger!

Which heritage lines do and don't have steam bans currently?

I do agree with you. As I said in an earlier post, there‘s no criticism of people working under pressure to keep their railway running. However, they could attract quite a few diesel cranks with an indication of their motive power plans during the steam ban.

Which heritage lines do and don't have steam bans currently?

I understand that a steam ban must hit heritage railway finances really hard. I also understand that management will be working harder than ever to find other ways of operating. So there’s no criticism real or implied in this suggestion: if someone at a line running diesel locomotives and/or...

A week of delay on SWR

I honestly don’t understand their “thinking” about this. The last time it happened to me was a couple of months ago when I was trying to travel from Southampton Central to Sway or New Milton. Trains were running late, nevertheless we were allowed to board at Southampton but turfed out at...

A week of delay on SWR

We have had so many appalling experiences on the Waterloo - Weymouth line over the last 12 months that we have given up and now travel by car and occasionally by coach instead. I imagine the regular problems are due to a combination of factors including bad luck, weather, and a signalling system...

    D9015 Tulyar is back!

This was posted by DPS yesterday: Tuesday 26th May 2026 is a date that will become one of the stand out days in the history of the DPS as it saw the first day of testing since D9015 was stopped on April 13th 1997. First, the loco made two round trips between Loughborough and Leicester North on...

    Go South Coast

Despite the X1 & X2 being the bus routes I use most often, I haven’t been on a bus for a while. I did have an early morning 5K run which took in the Barton on Sea cliff tops earlier today and noticed that the X1 bus stop signs have been replaced with smart New Forest Breezer 81 signs. I was...

What is one heritage railway or railway attraction you want to visit and have not yet?

Crewe Heritage Centre is #1 on my want to visit, essentially for the APT. I did see it in the wild a couple of times back in the day, but never got remotely close to seeing it at rest at a station. It really was a different world in those days, reliable information about units was like gold dust...

Recent recurring disruption on the Great Western and South Western Mainlines

The Waterloo to Weymouth line has definitely had a recent bad run of signalling issues impacting really badly on the service. I was caught out many times. The Brains Trust aka Control relentlessly responded by axing all New Forest stops.

A quick questionnaire to help with my school project.

Done! All the very best with this interesting research!

Deansgate station changed to ‘Olivia Deansgate’

Totally agree with you. There are those who seem to love getting REALLY REALLY ANGRY about stuff that isn’t even true. It’s also worth adding that Olivia Dean is a proper singer with a fabulous voice and sold out a six night residency at the O2.

They absolutely do! and with that, I promise not to respond further, as neither of us is going to change their opinion.
