For those who may not know, I'm on 165110 now and it does have air cooling equipment fitted. It retains hopper windows but they all have locks on them.
The only place I could see them going is to East Midlands to replace the HSTs instead of ordering bi-modes, perhaps with a full refurbishment and even software replacement to make them compatible with Meridians.
Other than that, maybe the 221s have tilt reinstated and sent to West Coast and the...
I suppose you could always replace the 'third' seat with a small luggage rack or something. Doubt it will happen though.

Regarding the 166s, is the existing air-con system being replaced by Chiltern-style air-cooling, or is it just the 165s being fitted?
Also when the 166s are converted to 2+2 seating, will there still be some 2+3 over the coolant units (I think) in the centre of each coach?

They must have to insulate the open gangway really well to conduct the testing!

That won't happen, the trains are needed fairly quickly, before the first NTFL train even enters service. They also need to be similar to the existing Northern and Jubilee line trains for compatibility, especially on the Jubilee with the Platform Edge Doors in the new section.
The additional...
I may be wrong but reading the small piece on this in Modern Railways the wording seems to suggest that rather than lopping the ends of the coach off, the door aperture will be cut into a bigger, standard size and then a standard door module slotted in place.
It depends. I find trains with decent AC are still always too warm in this country. When I travel in Europe the trains seem to have the temperature set lower which means the AC works harder but it's far more comfortable.
Northern Ireland is somewhere I see as ideal to implement smart ticketing with its relatively small, uncomplicated, self - contained network.
A smart card covering trains and buses, all of which operate under Translink (I think), could be very doable
The new IEP/AT300 trains use the same locking mechanism as on the 395s whereby the door is pushed against the body to form a seal, but on the IEPs/AT300s as the train slows down (5mph and under I think?) this seal is released so that the doors can open quickly when the train has stopped. It was...
