Trains all at a stand in the Manchester area... (Thursday afternoon 06AUG2026)

If it helps the DNO fault information says that power was restored to the ROC feed at 1341. If someone can tell when the signalling states will have been lost based on train movements on RTT it should be possible to see if the UPS carried on after the 1340 (according to NR) loss of power. If...

    Club Avanti

The reason was TH (Senior) Conductor/Train Manager So the Train Manager didn't do it, the OP presumably assumes it wasn't a cleaner!

Cancellations of last train of night

Northern also use CMAC. I wonder which staff think they are authorised to phone the single number to get the service. One wonders if the organisation just doesn't work because late at night making the call to the portal is not something staff feel authorised or want to do.

Northern Cancellations - The stations that came out worst

I would expect that it will not change until after the end of the tax year when they stop paying higher rate tax on RDW payments

Northern- Why Can't we vent anymore?

Where I am there are 16 out of 71 cancelled today; 7 cancelled on the day because the Conductor wasn’t available and 9 p-coded on a previous day. It isn’t a Sunday, in whose imagination is this acceptable?. While we are on it this thread moved to the back end of beyond without any explanation; why?

Deal proposed for Northern Conductors in the North West regarding Sunday working

Rail services in the north are generally not confined to a single city region but go through other local government structures too. The influence of Mayors with their ITA subsidies cause fares to be much higher outside those areas and yet the service requirements are dominated by the Mayors...

Deal proposed for Northern Conductors in the North West regarding Sunday working

I understand from your response that you thought it was secret but that you were aware of it. The link to the RMT site still works and is https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/publications/principle-agreement-conductor-sunday-proposal-appendix/principle-agreement-conductor-sunday-proposal-appendix.pdf

Deal proposed for Northern Conductors in the North West regarding Sunday working

The offer was available on the Web and was jointly signed by Management and the RMT Conductor Employee Council Chairman. It also contained no strings. It takes two to tango and always blaming one side on here when the other side cannot answer back without an enormous pile-on seems less than...

Deal proposed for Northern Conductors in the North West regarding Sunday working

Northern have announced an emergency timetable from Sunday 22nd December on Sundays in the North West. Everything they are not certain to be able to run is either to be cancelled or substituted by a bus according to the press release. Burnham wanted certainty and he will get it; It suspect it...

    Northern cancellations creeping up again?

That is being changed in the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill currently going through Parliament which will require the Secretary of State not to enter into a new franchise agreement other than with a public sector company by means of a direct award.

    Northern Still Using FAX Machines

There seems to be an assumption on this thread that closure of the existing Public Switch Telephone Network, and its replacement by IP based Telephony, will stop the use of Group 3 fax machines. The design requirements for the IP replacement network explicitly allow for the continuation of fax...

    2024 Budget impact on Rail

Fuel Duty is directly included in private motoring costs and indirectly in both Bus fares and Rail Fares. This is in the definition of the CPI Shopping Basket published by ONS

Rail Data - what is a Rail Station and what is a Metro/Tube station?

Naptan is used to calculate connections from those locations. That means that the locations that count are the entrances to stations rather than the location of the platforms. That allows the calculation of walking times between modes. It is not used for connection times at the same station...

Sounds like thanks to GWR for passing the information on. I wonder if Northern will wake up?
