One of the Bristol - Thornbury routes used to be the 309/609 (commercial/subsidised), it then became just the 309 (commercial & subsidised), then it became the 78. At the end of this month it will become the T2.

See my earlier post, the T1 serves the Thornbury loop anticlockwise every half hour. The T2 serves a slightly different loop clockwise hourly.
There will clearly need to be a significant rethink of the other BStk servixes - it could make sense for the 73 to revert to serving...
Its also worth noting that the clockwise Thornbury route is hourly, as it is the T2, but the anticlockwise route is half-hourly as it is the T1.
The Thornbury circulars seem to be a variation on a theme from the 78/79, so I'm not sure that First are trying to oust the subsidised 77, although...
