I suggest you read to the end of the thread. :)

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

Hello, I thought I'd come back here and let you know how the matter was resolved. I took on board the sage advice given on here and reluctantly conceded that I probably didn't have a leg to stand on, but instead of writing back to them graciously admitting defeat, I reacted to the letter in...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

yep, free for all. it seems to work. i agree it would be impossible on trains though. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I agree with this, and again I am grateful for the advice. I am just exploring all the angles I can. I can't afford to pay this money, so I need to get out of it...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

I accept that I should not have lost my wallet and I'm grateful for the advice, but there seems to be a tiny bias towards the train companies too and a rather sanctimonious know-it-all attitude, patronising a hapless consumer, who is trying to find a way out of a difficult situation that's been...

Really? I wasn't aware of that!

there are no seat reservations as far as i know. you can pay a pound extra to board before everyone else, but i've never seen anyone do that. you don't need your name, just a number. IIRC the paper list they have to check off is just reference numbers. i could be wrong though or they could have...

Except you haven't, as NE allow you to print out your ticket or show them it on your phone. East Coast is different cos it doesn't do e-tickets. National Express does. I hope I don't have to explain this again.

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

it's not very likely that i'd pass it on to someone else. in the vast majority of cases, people who buy tickets intend to use them.

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

i think we're both right as a printout of a ticket constitutes as a ticket. in reality all they're interested in is a number, so if you can show the email to them on your phone, they are content with this as they can cross it off the list and then move on. IIRC you can also pay 50p extra and...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

no, i do take responsibility for losing my wallet. i just don't think it should just end there and then if you've lost your ticket. there should be other acceptable ways of demonstrating that you have bought a ticket. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I'm sorry, but I think I...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

oops. there was a "n't" missing there! i only have experience of leeds and kings x really --- old post above --- --- new post below --- that's not strictly true as all you need is a printout or a reference number, so if you lose your ticket, you just print out another one or show the email...

Perhaps, but I don't think it's as simple as you make out. Most train stations have barriers that physically prevent you from getting on if you have a ticket. Coach services are in many ways more open than train services are, certainly more flexible than train journeys. And the fact that you...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

well i never. thanks for your dazzling insight. of course they should be compared. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- the reasons i gave earlier. a journey is not a tangible thing, like a sweater or a television. when i buy a ticket, it gives me permission to travel. it's not the...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

er, thanks. I do see tickets as different to goods though, for the reasons I have aleady provided. Perhaps rail tickets should have names on like air tickets so you couldn't pass the ticket on to someone else. On the other side of it, if coaches manage to cope with printouts and even just...

Lost ticket and unpaid fare notice (Leeds-London on EC)

thanks. I would have dealt with it the next day if I had been aware there was going to be a problem, but I felt reassured by the staff member that I wouldn't have to worry about it. I called both EC and the train station that afternoon and the next day to recover the wallet as I still wanted my...
