I seem to remember reading somewhere that the overhead was untensioned in the tunnels, I assume because when built they wouldn’t have been able to fit weights and the temperature won’t vary too wildly down there.

No. The issue there is management. Management always think vast and complex software systems are easy and expect too much to be delivered too quickly. Usually time or cost pressures add into this.

Changing a font is never really simple though. All typefaces have different widths, so if they changed font, they could end up with some bits of text which they expected to take up one line in a browser, suddenly taking up two. This would be a problem if there are any bits of the website where...
If you take a look at hitachi's drawings for HS2 stock, judging by the way it curves in at the bottom of the doors, you might just be right about designing around the UK gauge...
