Taking trams off already overpacked existing lines will not go well, I commute on the Bury line and its sardine'd any time before 9am in the morning (dont get me started on the push to make people commute earlier then providing a single tram every 12 mins for the early trams!) any time after...

Saw this leaving Vic this afternoon, noisy going up the hill away from the station and looks a little odd when the 68 is at the rear!

I assume they are carrot and stick-ing extra xmas related passengers out of the rush hour crush, it does seem particularly restrictive in its terms, perhaps an extended off peak rule something like pre-7am, 10am - 3pm and 7pm until end of service would work to get more people who can be flexible...

Then from 2 to 1 a mile up the road just to make it grind to a halt even faster!

If street running anywhere up this neck of the woods 15mph would be an improvement unless the tram is segregated it will sit in horrific traffic whichever route they choose, either Rochdale road or Middleton road are stop start all they way through rush hour and beyond.

More possibilities...

That's not a bad idea, there is a bus lane up the majority of that end of Rochdale road so street running could be possible, maybe a stop at the hospital, one in blackley village or just onto Rochdale road one somewhere near the junction with Victoria avenue, possibly one alkrington and then...

I'd like to see them try and ramp down from the embankment without having to remove a few houses and the row of shops, as for moving the existing station there are bridges either side of it and housing beyond that, I'm not saying its impossible but the cost of it all would I'd imagine be eye...

A junction at bowler vale the track is on an embankment surrounded mostly by shops and housing, that and Middleton road is a car park traffic wise in the peaks if they are thinking about street running, there is also the m60 junction to contend with, I'd imagine the cost would be prohibitive...

Money and political will aside, linking the Bury line to Middleton seems like a good idea and could potentially link up some close to Manchester but poorly served areas but as a local I cannot see how they will route this, its not like there are great swathes of undeveloped land to build a spur...
