Yet more Virgin vs Chiltern adverts...

I expect Chiltern Railway see their Mainline project as a way of breaking into new markets - especially the more time sensitive business travellers. In terms of quality and comfort, I know plenty of people who find the narrow Pendolino seating uncomfortable, who I imagine would much prefer...

    Chiltern to WCML

I recall reading that Chiltern Railways investigated using one of the disused tunnels for sidings but found that the foundations of a building were built through it

    Chiltern May 2011 Timetable

Chiltern Railways has just announced the launch of Chiltern Mainline will be put back until late summer, as there's a risk that the work won't be finished in time for the May launch: http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/news/chiltern-mainline-announcement-0

    Walks between stations

There are a number of walk options between stations and lines in and around the Chilterns. I recently did Wendover (Aylesbury Line) - Princes Risborough (Chiltern Main Line) following the ancient Ridgeway track. This took in some of the best viewpoints of the Chilterns. In the opposite...

    High Speed 2

Is HS2 designed to allow double-decker trains then? It's about time new lines are, given the need for capacity.

    New TfL "s" stock

Good news - but any update on when we might start to see them in normal service?

    Aylesbury - London Marylebone

As others have said, we only get 165s on the Aylesbury branch during peak, although you do occasionally see the 168s offpeak. Can't comment on the loading from Aylesbury, however I do know that many travelling from South of Amersham stations complain of Chiltern services being busy...

    New TfL "s" stock

Thanks for the news on when to expect the new trains. I'm looking forward to them coming into service although presumably we won't see an increase in speed / service frequency until all are in service? Will be interested to see how the ride compares. The current stock can be exceedingly...

    New TfL "s" stock

Makes sense that common fleets cut overheads. Chiltern do keep their bubble car on the Princes Risborough - Aylesbury branch, however I believe they use similar stock for departmental duties so perhaps it's more cost effective.

    New TfL "s" stock

The odd thing is that Chesham is relatively large compared to the other towns on the Amersham branch of the Met line (20,000 population compared to 17,000 of Amersham), so in many ways it would seem to be deserving of a better service than it receives at present, where it's something of a victim...

    New TfL "s" stock

As a daily user of the Amersham branch trains, I'm keen to see the arrival of the S stock. Although the trains will have fewer seats (and no sign of an increase in service frequency until signalling upgrades are complete in 2016) I think the new layout will make getting on and off the train and...
